What are the odds your first female exec is a druggy? That sucks. The thing I don’t understand is that if Toyoda truly believes she didn’t intentionally break the law why didn’t he stop her from resigning?

I hope she gets treatment for her addiction.

Because he can’t. Employment is just a contract which either party can terminate.

I'm sure she will, she has the money.

Your telling me she wasn’t forced out and willfully resigned on her on? Sure. If he was as supportive as he appears in this article I’m sure she would have only took a leave of absence until matters were resolved one way or another.

Maybe it was some sort of sexist scheme to show that women can't be excs and maybe GM is gonna head down that road? #streatch

Now I don’t her specifics, maybe she has some medical problem she is self treating (like a bad back). While she may of not known she was breaking the law, she could have an addiction. Maybe the doctors there won’t write a prescription for a pain killer than works as well, and she said screw it I’ll order some online. OR she just has an opiate addiction. I will tell you the Japanese have a history of treating women inferior to men. Hiring a female executive could of been a publicity stunt to show “look we are hip and believe in a company culture where people are equal regardless of gender”. While in the back of her male peers minds there’s still deeply rooted beliefs.

That’d be really fucked up. I didn’t even think of that.

No. I’m telling you that, if she wanted to resign and he wanted her to stay instead, he wouldn’t have a choice but to let her go. Employees are not property. You cannot keep them against their will if they wish to leave. Conversely, you cannot stay on as an employee after your contract has been terminated. This is the nature of entering an agreement which either party can terminate at their discretion.

Not what I was saying. You obviously missed the point. Cool your guns Tonto.

I mean it’s a real stretch but it’s japan they could do something like that.

Then what were you saying? Because ‘Why didn’t he stop her from resigning?’ was the question you posed. If that’s not what you meant, then you should have said something else.

Not really going to further this because ‘conversation’ with you is futile.

It almost looks more like a setup than she was malicious or a druggie. People bring personal prescriptions with them all the time across borders; you generally have to really piss someone off for there to be an arrest or complaint.

To be fair though she hid them in her necklace; which is weird as hell.

Kat Callahan has a has a great write-up that was on the FP about this situation. It explains why Julie Hamp is likely in loads of trouble and will have a seriously hard time claiming the ‘I didn’t know it was illegal’ defense.
